A Good Treadmill Run →
Well, tonight I added a little more mileage to my 2012 treadmill total. I ran 3.11 miles on a startrac treadmill at the Island’s Ymca. I really like those treadmills. They are super nice. The run tonight was tough. I started off slow but after a few minutes I began to crank the speed upwards every few minutes until I was running 8.5 mph. That is a fast speed for me on a treadmill.

A Thunderbolt Run →
I’m still not feeling 100% but tonight’s 4.8 mile run did me a lot of good. One nice thing, my left calf only bothered me for about a mile. My right hip did not bother me at all and neither did my left ankle! Woo hoo! Another good thing, it was a beautiful evening for a run. The temperature was a very pleasant 61 degrees and humidity was a very unpleasant 100%. Perfect!

A Short Run in the neighborhood and Gear Review:... →
Once again I’m nursing an injury…I mean two injuries. My left calf is very tender and tight. My right hip at the joint has been hurting for the past week. Whenever my right leg rises up and my left foot is pushing off the ground the front of my right hip aches deeply. It’s very annoying. The pain pretty much disappears when I stop running. I thought a weekend rest would fix...

Running with Music →
Tonight’s run was a light-paced 4.22 miles in Whitemarsh Island. I ran with my trusty yellow reflective Nathan vest and red bikilas. I started the run with my running buddy, Nelson, but soon I pulled ahead and the rest of the run felt like I was running by myself. Nelson and I did talk a little bit about my Kilimanjaro climb last year but that quickly ended and I just found a comfortable...

Running with a sick friend and eating billions of... →
Yesterday I did not run because I was just lazy. Tonight I made up for yesterday’s slackness and ran 6.35 miles at the rails to trails. I met up with a friend of mine, Nelson, at 5:30 and we headed west on the trail toward the shrine and the prayer flags. Nelson started off on a pretty good clip and held it for about a mile. Had he kept that pace I would not have been able to keep up...

Running and Putting things back into perspective →
I had an interesting run this evening on Whitemarsh Island. I know that I said that I would run the rails to trails today but things change. I just wasn’t in the mood to run the rtt today. So, I went to the Island’s Ymca and stretched for about 15 minutes and even contemplated taking a nap on the big red mat that I usually stretch on. As I seriously thought of taking a nap on that...

Ran two Famous Savannah Cemeteries →
Yesterday’s run was 6.93 miles through Greenwich and Bonaventure cemeteries. I love running these cemeteries. They are so beautiful and peaceful. For about the first 20 minutes I did feel a bit of a chill even, though, it was not really cold outside. The temperature at the end of the run was 57 degrees but it was windy. Maybe, that’s why I was chilled for those first 20 minutes....

Running McQueen’s Island and the Deer Carcasses →
I ran 4.7 miles this evening partly at the rails to trails and on highway 80 and a run to the end of the zombie trail and back. Again, as I ran the zombie trail I was disturbed by the number of deer carcasses there. I mean, what’s going on? Is the zombie trail the deer carcass dumping ground? The zombie trail is the old Tybee highway on McQueen’s Island. There’s a remnant of the old highway...

A Beautiful January Day for Running →
This afternoon I ran 6.5 miles in the Thunderbolt area. It was an excellent day to run. At the end of my run the temperature was 73 with humidity at 47%. How is that for a run on the second week of January? I love this weather we’re having. We’ve only had two days this winter where temperatures dipped below freezing. That’s my kind of climate!

Running the Stairs was Killer or Should I Say, a... →
Did some serious stair training this morning! At 8:00am I met up with four other insane runners in downtown Savannah and we ran the very steep stairs between River Street and Williamson Street. We had agreed to run the stairs and a small loop for 30 to 45 minutes knocking out as many loops as we could in that time frame. After the third loop I think we all telepathically communicated with one...

First outdoor run of the year for me →
Yesterday I ran 3.42 miles in my neighborhood with my heart rate monitor. That was my first real run for 2012. After two days of running on a treadmill it was good to go outside and run. The scenery, the crunching of the leaves as I glided over them with the grace of a gazelle…a well fed gazelle…a well fed gazelle wearing blue vff’s. And, the crisp air flowing through my hair...

Running with a heart rate monitor →
So, yesterday I ran on the super cool star trac treadmill again. Those treadmills are so nice. I cannot believe that I’m enjoying treadmill runs this much! I’ll probably run on it again tonight! No, I won’t. I have to run outdoors tonight even if it’s snowy and a hurricane is upon us. Some times, you just have to run outdoors.
Yesterday’s run was 3.22. I ran it pretty hard too. Yesterday, I...

Phone Conversation this morning!
Me: May I speak with either Mr. or Mrs. Tyson?
person on the phone: Ward, you mean?
Me: Pardon me?
Person on the phone: The last name is Ward. The children's name is Tyson.
Me: Oh! I do apologize, Mr. Ward!
Me: I'm sorry. What was that, Mr. Ward?
Me: Mr. Ward. I am truly sorry but I cannot hear what you are saying.
Person on the phone: I am Mrs. Ward, Mrs. Wanda Ward! I have a deep voice.
Me (mortified): CRAP! I AM SO SORRY, MRS. WARD!
Mrs. Ward: It's okay, it's okay!
She laughs heartily.
I feel like such a moron!

The Reindeer 8k was loads of Fun →
The reindeer 8k was a good and fun race. The weather was ideal at 46 degrees at the start of the race and sunny. I had a good run. I finished at :33:29 and took second in my age division. Supposedly, I got a medal but I was too busy running my mouth when my name was called. So, I didn’t hear my name called out but everyone else did. That’s typical of me. I guess I’ve...

30 Day Food Intake Inventory Update: Days 5, 6, 7 →
Ok, I’ve been very slack in keeping up with my 30 food intake inventory on my blog but I have been keeping record of all that I eat and have been taking lots and lots of pictures of that food that’s ending up in my belly. I’m posting all of the pictures in my google + account in a photo album called Food of 30 Days. <—check it out (click on it).

A Short Run the Day before the Reindeer 8K →
I had a pleasant run this evening after work. I changed clothes at work into running attire and then shot over to Fleet Feet where I picked up my race packet for the Reindeer 8k. This is the race I was seeking sponsorship for the Tyson family that lost everything in a fire last month. My sponsor recruitment was nothing near remarkable but I did get nine remarkable people to sponsor me. ...

Day 2 of 30 Day Food Inventory →
So, yesterday was day 2 of 30 day food photograph food intake inventory. There was not too much excitement in what and how much I ate yesterday. Unless you consider it exciting that I ate two graham crackers in the morning, one right after the other! Wow!

Food of 30 Days Photo Inventory →
I’m on a quest to record by picture everything that I eat for the next 30 days. With this task I hope to get a clear picture of all the food I consume, good and bad.
In the end, hopefully, I’ll wake up to better nutrition and begin paving a way to losing some unnecessary weight I’ve accumulated over the last few years and, just live a healthier life style.

I Love Running the Savannah River Bridge Run →
Yesterday, I ran in my very favorite race of all, the Savannah River Bridge Run 10k. It started at 9:00am and ended :44:03 minutes later for me. It was a very painful 44 minutes but I loved every minute of it.
